Driver environment Engineer
Introduction
Are you an engineer with the ability to drive and document requirements for the driver cab environment?
The role involves understanding as well as engaging with a focus onto the ergonomic aspects — for example, accessibility to knobs, stalks, and switches, as well as how information and messages are presented on the displays. You will help define technical solutions within given prerequisites (function, style, geometry, and regulations), support and lead mechanical design activities and contribute actively to project deliveries and product/system roadmaps.
Please note, this is not a CAD role, focus lays on ergonomic and user interaction.
The role also includes discussions on driver comfort, seating position, pedal geometry, and related aspects. This position is ideal for an engineer with an interest in the interaction between the driver and the cab environment. You will be expected to build and maintain a broad network across the organization, providing input based on component history and project needs. At an experienced level, you apply practical knowledge gained through education and relevant work experience.
Role Description
As part of the cab engineering team, you will contribute to design activities from concept to industrialization, focusing on the driver environment in alignment with customer expectations. You will work in a collaborative, solution-oriented culture with a strong team spirit.
Responsibilities include:
• Leading and participating in cab design activities for the driver environment.
• Collaborating with Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Suppliers/Partners when needed.
Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
• University degree in technical design, industrial design, or mechanical engineering (with relevant ergonomics experience).
• Knowledge of ergonomics and cab interior design; experience with commercial vehicles is a strong advantage.
• Basic skills with CATIA, with the ability to model the driver movement/positioning and assess visibility of displays, telltales, and information etc.
• Basic understanding of electronics and hardware is a plus.
• Project management experience is beneficial.
• Cab system development experience is highly valued.
• Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
Personal Attributes
• Proactive, with the ability to take initiative and drive tasks forward.
• Strong business and customer mindset.
• Excellent communication and networking skills.
• Positive, adaptable, and solution-oriented.
• Organized, with a high value on documentation.
• Open-minded and energized by innovative, customer-focused work.
Seniority: The level of seniority for this role is flexible, a junior with right mindset and hunger to contribute within the field and vision of ergonomics will be considered as a strong candidate.
